Based on the life of Gertrude Lintz, a Long Island socialite who kept an amazing menagerie of animals on her estate, this very able film by Caroline Thompson (Black Beauty) concentrates on Lintz's relationship with a gorilla named Buddy, whom she raised from infancy on. The film is geared toward kids, but in the very best sense as Thompson orchestrates some very entertaining sequences without cutting corners on logic, the way most forms of children's entertainment do today. Rene Russo is very good as the eccentric woman, and Robbie Coltrane is uncharacteristically warm and fuzzy as her patient husband. Nice support work from Alan Cumming and the rest of the cast. Entertaining family movie
We all really enjoyed this movie and ended up buying it ! It is about a socialite from the twenties charmingly portrayed by Rene Russo. She raises numerous animals on her LOng Island estate and tries to tame and raise a gorrilla named Buddy. Any child interested in animals will enjoy this film, as will adults. It is set in the twenties and beautifully done , innocent family fun ! What a refreshing change !

True Love's Course
True love's course never did run smooth, particularly for the nutty Norwegians in this hilarious comedy. In his first directorial debut, Morten Tyldum does an excellent job keeping the pace popping. The hand-held camera angles of a reality-based television give way to the steady camera shots of three roommates who are bumbling their way through life & love. Nicolai Cleve Broch who also worked with Aksel Hennie (Geir) in his movie "Uno," is our romantic protagonist. With his full-bodied lips giving him G.Q. good looks, he's an ideal romantic lead whose quizzical smiles are not too heavy, but just deep enough to keep our interest. Broch plays Pals Kristoffer who breaks up with his girlfriend Elizabeth, played by Janne Formoe in her first film. Geir is the balding blonde roommate whose daredevil stunts like jumping from a third-story window mask some regret as the father of a child from his teenage years. Buddy movie . . .
A blending of genres, this bittersweet film from Norway is a buddy film and a romantic comedy rolled into one. Two billboard hangers move in with an agoraphobic third man, and life for the three 20-somethings proceeds with no more than the usual rough spots in the road of prolonged adolescence. A budding romance goes sour when the exchange of apartment keys is not equally appreciated by both parties, and another of the three discovers that he has a six-year-old son. Changes are set in motion, however, when their lives become the subject of a reality TV show. Entertaining and enjoyable film about friendship, romantic relationships, and discovering the heart's true desires.

Kristoffer makes his living putting up billboards with his friend, Geir and spends the rest of his time hanging out with his girlfriend, Elisabeth. Hocus Pocus Revisited
This is the first Buddies movie I have watched, so I can't compare it to the others. The first thing I have to say is that the puppies are adorable, the kids are charming, and the set is colorful. The second thing is that (at the risk of sounding picky) this movie is basically a remake of the Disney movie Hocus Pocus with a few minor changes, different actors, and of course adding the puppies. Hocus Pocus has always been one of my very favorite holiday movies, but I am genuinely shocked that Disney produced this Buddies movie with basically the EXACT same story line. Were they short on writers or short on creativity? If you have seen Hocus Pocus, you will be amazed at the similarities. The story opens in a big old house in the past, just 75 years ago vs. 300 years, and sets up the whole story for present day Halloween in a small town. Instead of three witches who are brought back to life by a candle, it's a warlock brought back to life by a mirror. Instead of sucking...

Buddy, the weakest in his family
Lizzie and Charles's family (the Petersons) foster puppies. They decided to take care of 3 pups, and their mother Skipper!! Its a BIG challenge for the Petersons!! The Petersons decided the pups names, Buddy, Cinnamon, and Cocoa. Buddy was the weakest of all, and the Petersons thought he was very special... Also, he needed extra help! Nice book for children
Ellen Miles simply wrote a great book series with The Puppy Place. Buddy is the book the series starts with. Even as an adult you can enjoy the story if you like books for children about dogs. At least I love her books. They are easy to understand and show great knowledge about dogs and how to take care of them. You can actually learn something by reading them. Dogs with different personalities need to be taken care of in different ways and that is exactly what those books are basically about in my opinion. Enjoy reading!

I wish This would happen to us
We foster dogs, but we still don't have a dog of our own yet :( I LOVE this series because it sounds just like what happens when we are fostering. We have never fostered a whole family like the Petersons do in this book, but we have fostered single dogs and single puppies: Our fosters are: BUDDY (named after this Puppy) SUNNY, AND WELL, their names are not chosen yet. BUDDY is in big trouble when he gets sick, will he ever build up his strength? And poor little Skipper watches all her puppies get adopted out but her, what will happen to her and her puppies? Cute, but inaccurate
This is a fine retelling of Dr. Doolitle, based on some true aspects of Gertrude Lintz's life. Buddy was best known worldwide as "Gargantua" after his sale to the Ringling Brothers circus in 1937 by Ms. Lintz. There was no nature preserve, and no putting him out to pasture. Buddy had been rescued by Ms. Lintz as a baby after he fell victim to an attack by a disgruntled sailor aboard the ship that was carrying him away from his home in the lowlands of Africa. The sailor emptied the contents of a fire extinguisher containing acid into the baby's face and left him for dead. Ms. Lintz bought the once valuable cargo from the captain at a bargain and nursed him back to health. As the movie shows, she raised Buddy along with a menagerie of other creatures as her own child. When he became unmanageable and dangerous, she contacted John Ringling North and Henry "Buddy" Ringling North with a proposition to sell Buddy. Their account of the meeting and sale is vastly different than anything shown...

Mildy entertaining for animal lovers
Set in the 1920s, Buddy follows the true adventures of loopy lady Gertrude "Trudy" Lintz (Rene Russo) who likes to take her menagerie of animals to the movies (and you thought the crying baby two rows back was bad). After one such outing, she has occasion to adopt a sickly baby gorilla. She names him Buddy, and takes him home to her M.D. husband (Robbie Coltrane) to see if he can cure the petite primate. Buddy is never portrayed by a real gorilla; the infant version was animatronic and the adult gorilla was a human in gorilla suit. However, there are several other real animals in the movie including dogs, cats, horses, and chimpanzees. Great treats, but...
They are a bit too easy for my dog to get them off. The medium sized Premier Busy Buddy Bristle Bone Dog Toy with its rawhide treats had kept my 9 month old Pembroke Corgi occupied for a good while initially (more than 1 hour.) Later on she figured out that if she kept nibbling at just the treats, she'll get them off within 10 minutes. They are great treats, I just wish they make them a lot harder for my puppy to get it off. Perhaps make them out of a much tougher material?
